Throw ratio is the spec that tells you how far your projector needs to sit from the screen to produce a given image size. It's written as a ratio — distance to image width — and it determines where the projector can physically live in your room.
- Throw ratio below 1.0 (short throw/ultra short throw): the projector sits close to the screen, often just a few feet away or even inches for UST models.
- Throw ratio of 1.0 or higher (long throw/standard throw): the projector needs several feet of distance — often 6 feet or more — to fill the same size screen.
Why This Spec Matters More Than People Think

Where Pico Projectors Fit In
A pico projector is the smallest category on the market — pocket-sized units, often under a pound, built for portability rather than home theatre-grade picture quality. Most pico projectors run at HD or lower native resolution and a few hundred lumens at most, which makes them great for a quick presentation, a hotel room movie, or a backyard hangout, but not a substitute for a proper home theatre projector. If your priority is a dedicated big-screen setup rather than something you can toss in a bag, look at compact home projectors instead — they trade pocket-sized portability for real brightness and resolution.
